He was prolific in many genres, writing dozens of novels, short stories, and works of social commentary, but he is now best remembered for his science fiction novels. "Tono-Bungay" is a semiautobiographical and social novel in the vein of Charles Dickens. It is a story of young George Ponderevo, who leaves college to help his Uncle Edward market Tono-Bungay, a worthless medicine.
