They also enumerate the principal tomb festivals, and supply a large number of the civil and priestly titles, and useful lists of the canonical offerings of the dead. Incidentally some of these texts contain information of the highest historical value. Thus the information obtained from the inscription of Ptah Shepses (No. 30) has been employed in determining the order of the succession of several kings of the IVth and Vth dynasties; and the stele of Antef (No. 99) supplies the names of three successive kings of the XIth dynasty, the order of whose reigns was, up to the time of its discovery, unknown.Owing to the great difference in the sizes of the various objects, it has been found impossible to adopt a u...
