📖 In the 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review, militaryplanners speak at great length about the importance ofrebalancing our armed forces. As a result of the BudgetControl Act of 2011, our U.S. Armed Forces haveabsorbed significant budget cuts, which are projectedto continue into 2016. Not surprisingly, a major themeof the Quadrennial Defense Review is the necessity ofmaking tough choices in a period of fiscal austerity.1As Dr. Manjikian's analysis points out, however, many of the themes raised by policymakers, militaryanalysts and the general public in relation to this newpolitics of austerity are not actually new. Rather, suchconversations have taken place at the end of U.S. militaryactions after the Korean War, in Vietnam, and atthe end of the Cold War.
