A la main, on a employé 6 hommes et 6 chevaux travaillant 10 heures par jour; à la machine, 23 hommes et 24 che vau'x. Malgré le nombre quatre fois plus grand d'ouvriers, le nombre d'heures de travail a été six fois moindre et la dépense a diminué de plus de deux tiers.
