Je ne me dissimule pas qu'un texte de plus de mille pages doit nécessairement paraître fort long; ma seule excuse, c'est que le Nouveau Traité de Diplomatique en renferme quatre fois autant. Je serais trop heureux d'ailleurs si l'on n'avait à me reprocher qu'un défaut de proportion dans l'analyse des immenses travaux accomplis par les Ré nédictins.
