📘 The Urban population of country is growing at a phenomenal pace and has its implications on the infrastructure of cities. India's inadequate infrastructure has long been identified as a serious basis for holding back the economy's growth. Here attempts have been made to examine the recommendations given by the Rakesh Mohan Committee known as India infrastructure Report (1996), who had done an exhaustive study and contributed to improving the understanding of the issues involved in the commercialization and financing requirements of infrastructure. Further the recent process of provision of effective infrastructure development for the identified Indian cities given in JNNURM, whether it is in converge or diverge to the approaches suggested in IIR 1996 and what further progress have been made with the implementation of JNNURM policy also have been reviewed. Certain issues have been generated such as "Can JNNURM makes Indian Cities 'Magnets of Hope'?" If these recommendations are on same lines which were given in 1996, then what further improvements have been made in past years? Where we are now and from where we go? The greater urgency has risen to address these crucial issues.
