📖 This is a book of select poems written by Henry W Shimkoski before he left his home in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1940 for the battlefields of Europe. He wrote about wartime misery and intrigue while serving as an Army medic both before and after his role in the D-Day Normandy Invasion, which earned him a Purple Heart. Some poems were also written after his return to civilian life in 1945, mostly to celebrate his new life as husband and father.
