So geht der Grammatik eine Vorrede von Wallis „an account of the rise and progress of the English Tongue voraus, und der Versuch zu einer Lautphysiologie trägt den Titel „of speech: or the information, or genuine sound of all letters, written in Latin by the learned Dr. Wallis. Ein Vergleich des benutzten Auszuges aus G's Grammatik und Wallis ergibt auch, daß jene zum größten Teil eine genaue Übersetzung von Wallis darstellt Demnach müssen wir die Frage bei Loe wisch S. 16: „hängt G von Wallis ab bejahen.
