📓 Painted Windows' author, Elia Wilkinson Peattie, was born and raised in poverty in southwestern Michigan and went on to become one of the first female reporters for the Chicago Tribune. From her introduction to this work: "Will you come with me into the chamber of memory and lift your eyes to the painted windows where the figures and scenes of childhood appear?
