🔖 Democratic consolidation has no doubt assumed a frontal roll in political discourse due to the extension and establishment of democracies in new polities and the need to protect these new democracies from relapse. While current literature settles earlier doubts of a positive correlation between civil society and democratic consolidation, there are still contentious debates in the circles of academia and practice regarding what constitute a consolidated democracy and the extent of civil society’s contributions to it. Against this backdrop, the study critically assesses the contributions of civil society towards democratic consolidation in Ghana based on Linz and Stepan’s concept of democratic consolidation. Whiles this book addresses academic concerns by stimulating relevant theoretical and conceptual debates and thus serving the purposes of researchers and students of politics, sociology, governance, democracy and civil society, its simplisity and practical approach makes it useful to national and local governance practitioners, civil society and development practitioners as well as the general reader.
