📕 This book has two sections: The first sections deals with the First Voyage by Columbus in which he reached principally Cuba which he called Juana and what is now Haiti which is on an island he called Español.He was anxious to return to Spain to report his discoveries so he sailed back on the Niña. He landed first in Portugal where he learned that the King of Portugal had already made a deal with the King and Queen of Castile on how they would divide up the New World.He then went to Spain where in view of his discoveries he was provided with a fleet of seventeen ships and 1200 fighting men to return.First and Second Voyages of Cristopher Columbus to America Although the Voyages of Christopher Columbus which led to the Discovery of America are among the most important events of world history, the original journals are in most cases either lost, suppressed or unavailable. Many are believed to be held under lock and key by the Vatican.Here we have gathered together in one place all the documents we can find contemporaneous with Columbus. In some cases they were translated into Latin and from Latin they were eventually translated into English.We would prefer to have the Spanish Language originals but they are presumed lost. Included here is the report of Doctor Dr. Diego Álvarez Chanca, perhaps the only qualified person who participated in and wrote about the voyages of discovery. Three hundred years passed before this important work became available.Perhaps the reason for this suppression was the scandalous nature of the reports, which you will find in this book.It appears that almost all of these 1200 men never returned to Spain as Columbus returned to Spain in 1494 with only one ship. He had twenty Native American Indian women with him on the ship.
