📘 First published in 1852, this work by Charles A. Goodrich was designed as a comprehensive guide to the history of the United States for the education of young people. At nearly four hundred and fifty pages in length, this work begins with the voyage of Columbus, in 1492, and chronicles the major events in the nation's history right up to the death of President Taylor, and the inauguration of President Fillmore in 1850. The sections of this book are broken up into 16 periods, with each marked by a notable event or occurrence, such as the French and Indian War, or the establishment of the Federal Constitution (it even includes a copy the Constitution, along with the Declaration of Independence, at the back of the book). As this work was written with young people in mind, there are also a large number of exercise questions at the back of the book to test the reader's understanding of the topics covered. Whether a child or adult, this work is a fascinating journey through the history of the United States. We are republishing this classic text with a brand new introductory biography of the author.
