📕 The rationale to carry out the present study was to look for the epidemiological factors, socio-demographic variables, anthropometric variables, biochemical parameters and chromosomal aberrations associated with Breast cancer in the Amritsar region and to compare the results with healthy unrelated controls to assess the risk factors associated with breast cancer in Amritsar region. The study was carried out during the period 2007-2011.During this hospital based study, epidemiological information was collected and biochemical investigations was carried in 261 subjects of Amritsar district; The study sample consisted of 100 breast cancer patients. More females were affected from the disease as compared to males. Most of them were from rural areas and found to be involved in agrarian occupations directly or indirectly, thereby having an exposure to agriculture related chemical like pesticides. There was a common loss of chromosomes in some cancer patients and their first degree relatives.
