📓 History of New York's civil war unit, the First Battalion New York Sharpshooters. After garrison duty at Suffolk, Virginia, the battalion was assigned to Lysander Cutler's "Iron Brigade," and engaged in ferocious fighting in the Wilderness and during the siege of Petersburg where its entire combat contingent was captured. Includes transcriptions of portions of diaries of three of the unit's soldiers, and eight photos of the unit's soldiers.
