📙 Mary Ellen Elliott shows that rich and intensive vocabulary instruction is necessary for the particular needs of English language learners as well as native speakers. She adapts the "robust" vocabulary instruction method outlined in Beck, McKeown, and Kucan, "Bringing Words to Life" (2002), in meaningful and engaging activities for ELLs. This methodology, involving higher-order thinking skills, enhances reading comprehension for all students. These activities are presented in a sample reading curriculum.
