📒 A passive optical network (PON) is a point-to-multipoint communication system and it becoming popular for passive components and also higher bandwidth. Now fiber to the premises network architecture in which unpowered optical splitters/couplers are used to distribute a single optical fiber to serve multiple premises, typically 32 or more. Communications technology especially optical fiber communication is progressing rapidly. APON to BPON to GPON, and from EPON to GEPON all these PON prove of progressing of Optical Fiber communication technology with higher data rate and bandwidth. All PON systems have essentially the same theoretical capacity at the optical level and limitation to cover maximum 20 km distance. In this book, overall GPON architecture and performance analysis has been described by providing the priority on the GPON architecture restriction to solve the distance restriction of GPON and also tried to support more users with higher better performance than the basic GPON.
