🔖 Diabetes mellitus refers to a range of conditions that are all characterized by elevation of the blood glucose level due to insulin deficiency or impaired insulin action. This study was conducted to evaluate the levels of IGF-1 in T2DM patients. Total 88 subjects were included. Mean age value of all the subjects was 46.93±0.923 years, mean value for BMI was 30.56±0.541 kg/m2, mean value for WHR was 0.975±0.005, mean age value of fasting plasma glucose was 140.94±3.577 mmol/L, mean value of cholesterol was 219.26±3.299 mg/dl, mean value of triglyceride was 226.22±11.985 mg/dl, mean value of HDL was 42.64±2.039 mg/dl, mean value of LDL was 144.22±6.026 mg/dl, mean value of HbA1c was 6.177±.0851 (%) and mean value of IGF-1 was 55.60±2.345 pg/ml. The subjects were stratified into 3 categories on the basis of glycemic status. Serum IGF-1 level was assessed by ELISA technique. Mean IGF-1 value for Group 1 was 53.62+4.262 pg/ml, for Group 2 was 59.08+3.599 pg/ml and for Group 3 was 51.90+3.188 pg/ml. In present study, all the diabetic patients have significantly lower levels of IGF-1 and there is a positive correlation between glycemic status and IGF-1.
