Briggs (1841-1913) was Davenport Professor of Hebrew and Cognate Languages at Union Theological Seminary, New York. He is most famous for being one of the principle contributors to the 'Hebrew and English Lexicon of the Old Testament' (with Brown and Driver). His many publications include a commentary on Psalms (ICC), 'The Higher Criticism of the Hexateuch,' and 'The Authority of Holy Scripture.'
