📙 Freudian concept Oedipus Complex is often misinterpreted. This complex is not a son's excessive fondness for his mother. It is true that boys love their mothers. However, Freud explains that not only boys but also girls have an excessive love for their mothers and they have hatred for their fathers at an early stage of their lives at the same time. Some reconcile with their fathers as they get older while others experience it during their lifetime. In this work, I analyzed two well-known novels within the framewok of Oedipus complex. Paul Morel in D.H. Lawrence's novel 'Sons and Lovers' is a classic example to the theory of Oedipus complex. He falls victim to it and there is never a conciliation with his father. Virginia Woolf is not usually associated with the Freudian theory "Oedipus Complex. By analyzing a female character in Virginia Woolf's novel, this project provides a new insight into the theory of Oedipus Complex. In her novel "To the Lighthouse", James and Lily suffer from this complex.. Both have Oedipus complex but, in contrast to Paul, they succeed to overcome this complex.
