📓 Sheridan (nee Frewen, 1885-1970) was an English sculptor, journalist and writer known primarily for making busts of famous sitters and for her diaries recounting her world travels. She was a cousin of Sir Winston Churchill with whom she enjoyed an amicable relationship, though her support for the October Revolution of 1917 caused them to break ranks politically. Among her circle of friends were Princess Margaret of Sweden, Lord and Lady Mountbatten, Lady Diana Cooper, Vita Sackville-West and Vivien Leigh. One of her daughters died in infancy in 1914 and her husband was killed in action in 1915, a few days after the birth of their third child, a son. In 1920 she was invited to Russia to make busts of notable revolutionaries including Lenin and Trotsky, and it was rumoured that she had affairs with more than one of her sitters. In 1921 she visited America where she embarked on a love affair with Charlie Chaplin and this diary published in 1922 gives an account of her time there. Illustrated with photographs.
