📗 After delivering a cargo of French wine to Mauritius, HMS Kite was taken up by the government to carry stores to the British fleet destined for China. In September 1840 the ship was wrecked off the coast, and the crew subsequently imprisoned by the Chinese. This account of the shipwreck and his experiences of imprisonment in China by a young merchant shipman was first published in 1841 and is reprinted from the second edition of 1842. With illustrations and a facsimile of the original cover.
