📕 James (1858-1923) was a popular lecturer, photographer, author, journalist and editor who emigrated to the US from England as a young man after being ordained as a Methodist minister. He served in parishes in Nevada and Southern California, gradually embarking on his writing career and becoming the editor of two magazines and the author of more than 40 books and many articles and pamphlets on California and the American Southwest. This work was first published in 1916.
