📗 Holmes (1825-1907) was a bestselling and prolific American author of novels and short stories whose first novel 'Tempest and Sunshine' (1854) sold 250,000 copies. Her work portrayed life in small town and rural settings and she examined gender relationships as well as those of class and race. This novel was first published in 1890.
