📕 The first aesthetic romance not written in German, described at the time of its appearance as a picaresque tour couched in the form of a novel, this work by the celebrated French woman of letters was published in 1807. This English translation by Isabel Hill with metrical versions of the odes by the poet and novelist Letitia Elizabeth Landon, was published in 1833.
