📓 Hughes (1822-96) was an English lawyer, judge, politician and author, most famous for his semi-autobiographical novel Tom Brown's Schooldays (1857) set at Rugby School which Hughes had attended, the title character being modelled on his own brother, George.This work, first published in1895, gives an account of his various travels in Europe and America from the 1860s to the 1890s.
