📓 Roosevelt (1829-1906) was a sportsman, author and politician, the uncle of President Theodore Roosevelt and great-uncle of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. An early conservationist who organized several clubs to restrain the indiscriminate slaughter of game, he is credited with influencing his nephew to also become a conservationist. For many years he served as president of the Fish Culture Association and as a member Congress he originated the bill to create the US Fish Commission. He was the author of several books on fish and game, and other subjects. This work was first published in 1884 and is illustrated throughout.
