📕 First published in 1908. Holmes was a former Police Court Missionary and the author of Pictures and Problems from London Police Courts. With the proceeds from the sales of that book he set up a Home for Rest for London's poorest workers and in his preface to this second work he assured his readers that any profits earned from it would go towards the maintenance and development of that Home.
