📙 Edwards (1864-1936) was a writer, translator, critic and essayist who contributed to a number of journals. He spent six months in Japan, studying the language with native speakers and immersing himself in the culture, before writing this book on the Japanese theatre which was first published in 1901. With 12 illustrations, originally printed in colour but reproduced here in black and white.
