📓 Cooke (1830-86) was an American novelist, writer and poet who served as a staff officer to Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart in the Confederate Army cavalry during the American Civil War. Much of Cooke's writing is related to the Civil War, including a number of biographies in addition to his novels. This novel dealing with the later years of the war, first published in 1869, is a sequel to Surry of Eagle's Nest (1866).
