📒 Karageorgevitch (1862-1908) was a Serbian artist and writer on art, and world traveller. He gave singing and drawing lessons and later earned his living as an art critic and translator, and contributed to the Encyclopaedia Britannica and numerous journals. He lived most of his life in France as his family, members of the Karadordevic dynasty, were in exile after Prince Alexander Karadordevic lost the Serbian throne in 1858. He served in the French army and was awarded the Legion of Honour, and later travelled extensively in India, visiting 38 cities. He recounted his Indian experiences, describing the people and their religious rites and other ceremonies, the landscape and architecture, in this work which is reprinted from the English translation of 1899.
