Islamic Bindings and Bookmaking: A Catalogue of an Exhibition

📒 This book is an exhibition catalogue and deserves to be reviewed as such. The exhibition it commemorates, funded largely by the National Endowment for the Humanities, presented 100 choice bindings from the collection gathered by the German Orientalist Bernhard Moritz during his travel, research, and residence in the Middle East. A large part of the collection was purchased for the Oriental Institute by its founder, James Henry Breasted, in 1929 for the sum of $12,500, but smaller portions can be found in museums, libraries, and private collections throughout Europe.
