📙 This book is concerned only with painting, not with the parallel arts of sculpture and architecture. However, it is important to remember that none of these worked in isolation - the architect looked at the work of the sculptor, and he in turn watched what painters were doing, each absorbing the latest ideas thrown up by the other disciplines. Indeed, in many cases in the past — the Renaissance, as an example — the artists were multidisciplined. Each form of art influenced the other and gave new ideas and inspiration.
