📗 Modern European languages were stubbornly taught and learnt by millions of people in the same way as Latin and Ancient Greek are studied by people who want to learn about Ancient Rome and Greece - which does not imply any communication with the users of these dead languages. Now the situation with foreign language learning and teaching has instantly and dramatically changed. Foreign languages are in a great social demand, they are urgently needed as live and efficient means of communication between colleagues, partners, co-operators, friends.
