📖 Born in 1904 at Berkhamsted where his father was headmaster, Graham Greene was educated there and at Balliol College, Oxford. He was working on "The Times" when his first novel, "The Man Within", was published by Heinemann in 1929. "Stamboul Train" (1932) initiated what the author calls his "entertainments" and it was prefaced by a quotation from Santayana: "Everything in nature is lyrical in its ideal essence; tragic in its fate, and comic in its existence".
