📕 More than fifty years have passed since the day the shots of the historic cruiser Aurora heralded the advent of the Great October Socialist Revolution. More than fifty years ago working people led by the Leninist Communist Party stormed the Winter Palace, that last refuge of bourgeois and landowner rule in Russia. Half a century separates us from those glorious days that, to quote John Reed, "shook the world". As the years rolled by, the Soviet Union developed and gained strength in spite of innumerable hardships, including military intervention by fourteen imperialist states in the post-revolutionary period and the nazi invasion during the Second World War. The country has steadfastly followed the path outlined by Lenin. Today visitors to Moscow can clearly see how much has been done to fulfil Lenin's behests. Great changes in the country's economic, social and cultural life have told on the capital's appearance. Moscowis more than 800 years old. Much water has flowed under its bridges, and many historic events have left their indelible traces on the city's face. Yet the developments of the fifty Soviet years outshine all the deeds of the past.
